Japan announced its teams for 2019 Four Continents, Winter Universiade, Junior Worlds and the World Championships at the conclusion of its national championships on Monday afternoon. As expected, the top finishers at this competition earned the spots on those teams, with the exception of Yuzuru Hanyu who was named to the World team despite not being able to compete at this event. He is still recovering from an injury but expects to be ready to go for the World Championships in March. 

Daisuke Takahashi, who finished second in the men′s event, was invited to join the World team but declined the offer. ″Honestly, I am awfully lost. I want to go Saitama but I could not have prepared my mind to fight the world and should not go out without being prepared,″ the 32-year-old said. ″I feel that the need for younger athletes to gain experience is greater in order to boost skating in Japan, so I declined.″
