Slovakia: Skate Celjie has been rescheduled from its original November date to March 18 21. Entries / Results / Live stream

Sweden: The 2021 World Championships take place March 22 28 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Bulgaria: The Sofia Trophy 2021 takes place Feb. 26 March 3. Start orders/Results / Live stream

Netherlands: The 2021 Challenge Cup, the final opportunity for skaters to earn the minimum technical scores for the World Championships, will take place Feb. 25 28 in The Hague.

Korea: The Korean Skating Federation is holding its national championships Feb. 24 26. The competition will take place at the Indoor Ice Rink in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do. No spectators will be permitted. The draw for the short program was held Feb. 17. Start orders (Korean only). Dabin Choi, June Hyoung Lee and Nahyun Kim will not compete. The competition begins on Feb. 25 at 11:25 a.m. local time with the senior ladies 26 competitors in five flights, followed by 10 men in two flights. Estonia: The 2021 Tallink Hotels Cup takes place Feb. 20-21 in Tallinn. Start orders/results and live stream link.

Italy:

The Italian Grand Prix Final is scheduled to take place Feb. 1314.

The Egna Dance Trophy takes place Feb. 6-7. 

The Italian Ice Sports Federation has launched its own series of competitions — the Italian Grand Prix — which will take place in three stages between October and December. The best Italian skaters and a limited number of foreign athletes will be invited to participate.

Russia:

The 2021 Russian Cup Final takes place in Moscow, Feb. 27 – March 2. The remaining berths on the 2021 World Championships team will be assigned at the conclusion of this competition.

The 2021 Junior Championships take place in Krasnoyarsk, Feb. 1-5.

The Channel One Figure Skating Cup, a team event featuring the top Russian skaters, will take place in Moscow, Feb. 5-7. 

The 2021 Synchronized Skating Championships take place Jan. 26-28 at the Ice Palace of the Republic of Mordovia in Saransk.

The 2021 Russian Championships are scheduled for Chelyabinsk, Dec. 24-27.

The senior test skates will take place Sept. 12-13 in Moscow with a limited live audience in attendance and will be live streamed globally.

The annual Russian junior test skates will take place in stages in Novogorsk, with skaters/teams from each discipline attending separately, starting with the ice dancers (Aug. 10-11). When the ice dancers leave, the pairs teams will arrive. The pairs will present their programs Aug. 13-14. The singles skaters will attend following the departure of the pairs teams (ladies and men) and will present their programs on Aug. 18-19.

France:

The 2021 French national championships, which were cancelled in December due to the pandemic, will take place in Vaujany, Feb. 5-6 behind closed doors. Start orders/results and Live Stream.

The 2020 Figure Skating and Ice Dance Challenge is scheduled to take place in Paris (Cergy) Dec. 19-20. The test event will serve as an evaluation and selection process for the major international events in the second half of the 2020-2021 season.

United States:

The 2021 U.S. Championships will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada Jan 11-21.

The 2021 Junior Championships take place in Las Vegas, Nevada Jan. 20-21.

The Championship Series the final opportunity to earn a berth at the 2021 U.S. Championships continues (virtually) Dec. 22 with the men, ladies and pairs senior level competitions. The senior ice dance teams have all previously qualified. All four disciplines at the junior level will be streamed the week of Dec. 28. This Series (on demand on Peacock) is only available in the U.S. (VPN required elsewhere).

Canada:

2021 Skate Canada Challenge will be streamed Jan. 8-10 and 15-17.

The 2021 Canadian Championships has been cancelled, as has the 2021 Skate Canada Cup.

Japan:

The ″Nagoya Figure Skating Festival will take place Jan. 4 at the NGK Arena. The competition starts at 6:30 p.m. Fan attendance is limited to 50 percent capacity, but the event will be live streamed for a fee. Skaters scheduled to appear include Shoma Uno, Yuma Kagiyama, Rika Kihira, Kaori Sakamoto and Satoko Miyahara.

The 2020 All Japan Championships are scheduled to take place in Nagano, Dec. 23-27.

China:

A competition between national team members will take place in Shougang Jan. 1-2, which CCTV5 will broadcast live. Team Captains Wenjing Sui and Cong Han will commentate but not compete. Options to watch are HERE. Format of the competition is HERE. Videos from the competition are HERE.

Germany:

The German national championships take place Dec. 18-19 in Dortmund.  Start Orders/Results

Finland: The Finnish federation has announced that all competitions from Nov. 30 through Jan. 31, 2021 have been cancelled, including the national championships, which were scheduled to take place in Joensuu Dec. 18-20.

The 2020 Grand Prix Series will open with Skate America in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Oct. 23. The Grand Prix Final — the test event for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games — was scheduled to take place in Beijing, China, Dec. 10-13, but the competition has been cancelled.

United States: The Las Vegas Invitational will air on the NBC network Sun., Nov. 15 from 4-6 p.m. EST. Two teams — Team Tara and Team Johnny — (Tara Lipinksi and Johnny Weir will “coach” their respective teams from the broadcast booth) — will compete for $50,000 in prize money. Each team is comprised of three ladies and three men from the U.S. who are senior eligible domestically. Each skater will perform a free skate with their scores being added together for a total tally that will determine the winning team. The event will be judged under the IJS, with one modification: both the ladies and men will be scored using the same component factor of 1.6 (men are typically scored at 2.0). As a result, the men’s scores will be lower than usual, but both the ladies and men’s results will carry the same weight in the composition of the overall team score.

The 2020 Challenger Series was slated to open with the Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy in Beijing, China, in early September, followed by Autumn Classic International in Canada. Both events have been postponed as has the final competition, Golden Spin of Zagreb. Nepela Memorial, Finlandia Trophy, the Denis Ten Memorial, Inge Solar Trophy 2020 and Warsaw Cup were cancelled.

Ice Star 2020 takes place at the Olympic Arena in Minsk, Belarus, Oct. 29-Nov. 1. All disciplines in advanced novice, junior and senior will be contested. A few of the top Russian skaters, as well as stars from other nations, are on the rosters.

U.S. Figure Skating is holding a virtual Challenge Series — the International Selection Pool (ISP) Points Challenge — over a number of weeks starting Sept. 9, which will serve as the selection process for the 2021 U.S. Championships. More than 100 athletes will debut their programs for the 2020-2021 season and panels of judges will evaluate and score them. The first performances of the U.S. senior skaters (all disciplines) are slated to air Tues., Sept. 22. All performances in the ISP series will be streamed on the video corner of the U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone. Videos are usually uploaded mid-morning (MST).  Schedule and results. Video link

The videos of the second opportunity of the ISP Challenge for senior skaters will be available Oct. 5 (see links above). Alysa Liu debuted her new short program (remotely) at “Carnival on Ice” on Oct. 3. Athletes are vying for $200,000 in prize money, as well as a berth at the national championships in January (currently scheduled to take place in San Jose, California). Additionally, the results of this ISP series will be used as criteria for future international assignments. 

August 20: The Finnish federation announced on Aug. 20 that Finlandia Trophy has been cancelled due to current government restrictions. 

July 13: The Japanese Federation tweeted on July 13 that it would not be fielding any skaters to five of the currently scheduled Challenger Series events (Asian Open, Autumn Classic, Nebelhorn Trophy, Finlandia Trophy and Budapest Trophy). It will, however, be hosting the Japan Open in a modified format.

July 9: Chinese media reported that all international sporting events in 2020 (including Cup of China), other than those that are test events for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, have been cancelled. Four days later, the ISU sent out a press release stating that the Chinese Olympic Committee had agreed to reinstate Cup of China as that competition forms part of the Grand Prix Final, which is the test event for figure skating for 2022 Games.

April 28: The ISU released its decisions from the virtual Council meeting held on April 28. It has established a working group to evaluate all options for the upcoming season.

COMPETITION UPDATE

The ISU issued a communication on May 13 outlining the new Scale of Values for quad jumps and throws and death spirals for pairs. On June 19, based on feedback, the ISU rescinded that communication. 

The minimum technical scores that were set for the 2019-2020 season will remain in effect for the 2020-2021 season. All ISU Members will be informed at least 45 days prior to the entry deadline of the respective Championships if the required minimum technical scores will be adjusted. Skaters must earn the minimum scores 21 days prior to a scheduled event.

Draws for judges for the 2020 World Championships and the 2020 World Synchronized Championships were held in anticipation of those events. As neither took place, those judging panels will be assigned to Championships in the 2020-2021 season.

The ISU Council has provisionally allotted the 2022 World Junior Championships to Sofia, Bulgaria (March 7-13), and the 2022 World Junior Synchronized Championships to Innsbruck, Austria (March 17-19).
