Making a comeback after a long absence from the competitive scene is a risky move for anyone, but even more so for someone who was a skating superstar not only in his nation, but around the world.
Takahashi is aware of the risks of returning to competition after a four-year hiatus, but his reasons for coming back are strictly personal. This time, he is skating for himself.
“I was really indecisive about who should do my programs because it had been four years since I had a competitive program,” Takahashi said. “David had done my ‘In the Garden of Souls’ short program for the 2011-2012 season. I had only ever had one program done by him in my whole career and I always wanted him to do another one for me.”

Takahashi won Western Japan Sectionals on Nov. 4 and is headed to Japanese nationals in December. Watch his short and long programs from Nagoya.

UPDATE: Takahashi won the short program at Kinki Championships with 77.28 points and finished third overall.
