The 2022 Nebelhorn Trophy takes place Sep. 22-24 in Oberstdorf, Germany. All four disciplines will be contested. This competition gets underway with the men′s short program starting at 1 p.m. local time, followed by the women′s and pairs short programs.
The battle in the men′s event for the top step of the podium could be between Kazuki Tomono of Japan and Keegan Messing of Canada. Younghyun Cha of South Korea finished second at his Junior Grand Prix event in Courchevel in late August and will also be aiming for a podium finish in his first Challenger Series assignment since 2019.
Loena Hendrickx of Belgium, the 2022 World silver medalist, headlines the women′s event in her first competition of the season. Canada′s Madeline Schizas, Nina Petrokina of Estonia, and two Americans — Starr Andrews and Gracie Gold — have been assigned to this event along with South Korea’s Ahsun Yan and Seoyeoung Wi, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at the 2022 World Junior Championships.
The German pairs team of Alisa Efimova and Ruben Blommaert will make their international debut at this competition representing Germany. Efimova, who was born in Finland and previously represented Russia was released by the Russian federation in May 2022. Efimova and her former partner Alexander Korovin claimed the 2018 Nebelhorn Trophy title.
Great Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson headline the ice dance field. They will be looking to add to their medal stash following their victory at the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic last week, and are odds-on favorites to capture the title in their third appearance at this competition.
The Junior Grand Prix event, which was scheduled to take place in Yerevan, Armenia this week, has been cancelled.
