The second Challenger Series event, 2022 Lombardia Trophy, takes place Sep. 16-18 in Bergamo, Italy. A pairs competition will be held but it is not part of the Challenger Series event. A total of 29 singles skaters (12 men, 17 women) and 12 ice dance teams are set to compete.
The competition opens with the women′s short program. Kaori Sakamoto of Japan, who finished fourth at Lombardia Trophy in 2018, headlines the women′s field and should be a pretty sure bet to capture the title this time. She will be joined by teammates Wakaba Higuchi and Rinka Watanabe. Poland′s Ekaterina Kurakova and Amber Glenn of the U.S. will also open their season at this competition.
Top names in the men′s line up include Adam Siao Him Fa of France, Italy′s Matteo Rizzo, Koshiro Shimada of Japan and Tomoki Hiwatashi of the U.S. Fa is still listed in his bio as training in Courbevoie, La-Roche-sur-Yon but he made a coaching change in the off-season and now trains in the southern city of Nice with Cédric Tour and Rodolphe Maréchal.
The ice dance event will be one to watch with Italy′s Charlène Guignard and Marco Fabbri leading the way. The American team of Emily Bratti and Ian Somerville who train with Greg Zuerlein at the relatively new MIDA school in Michigan will kick off their season in Bergamo. Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevičius of Lithuania who have returned to the competitive stage for another season will open their campaign at Lombardia Trophy.
There are two live stream options for this competition.
