The third to last event of the Challenger Series, 2022 IceChallenge-Cup of Austria, takes place Nov. 9-13 in Graz. No pairs competition will be held. For many of the competitors assigned to this event, this will mark their debuts at the senior level, so there could be some surprises when it comes to the results.
There are currently 25 men slated to compete in a field that is a mix of junior and senior competitors. With no clear cut favorites to capture the three steps on the podium, this will be anyone′s game. That should make for a very interesting competition.
Top names in the women′s field of 34 entries include Gracie Gold of the U.S. who finished sixth at Skate America in October, and Minchae Kim and Dabin Choi of South Korea. Kim won the 2022 Denis Ten Memorial Challenger Series event ahead of Choi who finished third. Canada is sending three women, one of whom is Kaiya Ruiter, the 2020 national junior champion, who was out of action for more than a year due to injury. This will be her first competition since the Junior Grand Prix in France in August 2021.
The battle for top honors in the ice dance competition will probably be between the two American teams of Emily Bratti and Ian Sommerville and Molly Cesanek and Yehor Yehorov and the Australian duo of Holly Harris and Jason Chan.
This event overlaps with the Grand Prix MK John Wilson Trophy (link below).
