The 2021 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy, the test event for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, takes place in Beijing, Oct. 14-16. All four disciplines will be contested. This competition will mark the first appearance of the season for a number of skaters, particularly those from Japan and China.

Many international skaters originally scheduled to compete are no longer on the rosters. There are currently 10 men and nine women in the line ups. Four pairs and the top two ice dance teams (all Chinese) remain on the rosters. No American or Canadian skaters will attend this competition.

Japan′s Yuma Kagiyama headlines the men′s line up. He will be joined by teammate Shun Sato. Other competitors include Jun-Hwan Cha of South Korea, China′s Boyang Jin and Latvia′s Deniss Vasiljevs. It is not known why Han Yan was not assigned to this event.

In the women′s field, Kaori Sakamoto and Mai Mihara of Japan are the top names. Marilena Kitromilis of Cyrus, the winner of the 2021 Autumn Classic International, was originally scheduled to compete, along with Mariah Bell and Gabriella Izzo of the U.S., but their names were removed from the line up a week prior to the event.

China′s Wenjing Sui and Cong Han headline the pairs event and will be joined by Cheng Peng and Yang Jin and two other homeland teams.

For some unknown reason, there is no live stream for this competition as at Oct. 14.

This competition takes place in the same frame as the 2021 Budapest Trophy (link below).
