The 2019 Grand Prix Final will be held at the Palavela arena in Torino, Italy, Dec. 5-8.
The top six in each discipline from the senior Grand Prix and the Junior Grand Prix Series will battle it out for top honors at this prestigious competition.
Yuzuru Hanyu, Alena Kostornaia, Wenjing Sui/Cong Han and Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron topped the standings in their respective disciplines, each with two wins under their belts.
The most anticipated showdown will be between Hanyu and Nathan Chen. Hanyu scored higher than Chen in his two assignments to finish at the top of the leaderboard, but both will be chasing top honors in Torino. Bronze is up for grabs with Russia’s Alexander Samarin leading the charge.
The second most anticipated showdown will be the ladies event with the Russian trio of Alena Kostornaia, Alexandra Trusova and Anna Shcherbakova in a three-way battle for gold. Given their sweep of the six Grand Prix Series competitions they are the odds-on favorites to capture all three steps of the podium in Torino. However, if Japan′s Rika Kihira is on top of her technical arsenal, she has the potential to spoil that party.
In pairs, if Sui and Han are on top of their game, they will have no rivals for the gold. The battle for silver and bronze will be the highlight of this discipline. Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Koslovskii of Russia have not put a foot wrong this season and are top picks to take the silver over Cheng Peng and Yang Jin of China.
Likewise in ice dance, Papadakis and Cizeron are gold medal favorites. Canada′s Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier could prove to be strong challengers for Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov of Russia. Whichever way that rivalry plays out, there is a good chance these three teams will be on the podium.
Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze will have a busy schedule at the Final. Aside from the four senior ladies, two junior ladies and one junior man who will be competing at the Final, her daughter (Diana Davis with partner Gleb Smolkin) will also be competing in the junior ice dance competition.
