The 2019 Denis Ten Memorial Challenge will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Oct. 10-12 at the Halyk Arena sports complex. The inaugural tournament, organized by the Denis Ten Foundation, is a new Senior B event that forms part of the International Skating Union competition line-up. The annual event is dedicated to continuing the commitment of Denis Ten to develop skating in his homeland and is supported by the government and the nation′s Olympic Committee.
Skaters from 17 countries, in both the junior and senior categories, are slated to compete. Some of the young stars fresh off the Junior Grand Prix circuit on the rosters include Daria Usacheva, Maria Kromukh, Daniil Samsonov and Artur Danielian. Given Samsonov′s outstanding performances on the 2019 Junior Grand Prix circuit, he will likely run away with the victory at this competition. Usacheva is the top-ranked lady in the junior field.
Senior competitors include Dabin Choi, Maria Sotskova, Makar Ignatov, Moris Kvitelashhvili and June-Hyoung Lee.
A number of skaters, such as Evgenia Medvedeva, were disappointed they could not compete at the 2019 Denis Ten Memorial, but by the time the arrangements were in place they had already committed to other competitions. Next year should see a strong turnout of top-level skaters in Almaty. Tatiana Tarasova was also hoping to attend but she had to cancel at the last minute due to illness.
