The much-anticipated 2017 Grand Prix Series will open in Russia with Rostelecom Cup. Reigning World champions Evgenia Medvedeva and Yuzuru Hanyu kick off their respective Olympic seasons in Moscow and — barring any unforeseen circumstances — should be shoo-ins to capture the singles titles.
Italy’s Carolina Kostner, Japan’s Wakaba Higuchi and Mirai Nagasu from the U.S. are also top contenders to battle it out for a podium finish at this competition.
Nathan Chen of the U.S. will be Hanyu’s main challenger for gold and we expect this to be the first showdown of the season. Reigning Russian champion Mikhail Kolyada will be in the hunt for his first Grand Prix podium finish, as will Latvia’s Deniss Vasiljevs.
Russia′s Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov will be looking to capture their first Rostelecom Cup title, but will have to stave off their teammates, Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov.
Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani of the U.S. head into this event as the top-ranked ice dance team and will be looking to mine gold. Hot on their heels and in the hunt will be Russia’s Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Solovyev, who narrowly missed the 2017 World podium by just 1.12 points behind the American team. Top medal contenders on our list are Canada’s Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier and Russia’s Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin.
The ISU will live stream 2017 Rostelecom Cup, which will be available in nations that do not have television rights and geo-blocked in those that do.
