Canadian Championships

The 2017 Canadian National Championships take place January 16-22, 2017, at the TD Place Arena in Ottawa, Ontario. The Championships will be the first sporting event in Ottawa′s year-long celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. This competition takes place the same week as the 2017 U.S. Championships

The teams for Four Continents, the World Figure Skating Championships and the World Junior Championships will be announced at the conclusion of the competition. Patrick Chan, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford and Kaetlyn Osmond will all be gunning for the titles in what will likely be the second to last time any of them (other than Osmond) will compete at nationals. With the 2018 Olympic Winter Games just 13 months away, it will be a battle for a place on the World team to cement a place in Skate Canada′s preference for the Games.

Canada has two places in each of the men’s and ladies disciplines at Worlds in Helsinki, and three in pairs and ice dance. Kevin Reynolds and Nam Nguyen will be in the hunt for a podium finish to earn those places. Likewise in ladies, Gabrielle Daleman and Alain Chartrand will be locked in a battle for the one spot that will be open.

The 2017 Canadian novice and junior events and some of the earlier senior flights (yet to be determined) will be live-streamed from Ottawa via the Daily Motion link. Ted Barton will host those events in English, and commentary by Myriane Samson for French viewers.
