Japan has announced its teams for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Four Continents, World Juniors and Worlds:
OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
2021 Regionals — Results – English / Results – Japanese
Sep. 23-26 — 2021 Chugoku-Shikoku Kyushu Championships — Iizuka
Sep. 24-26 — 2021 Chubu Championships — Nagoya
Sep. 30-Oct. 3 — 2021 Kanto Championships — Chiba
Oct. 1 -3 — 2021 Tohoku/Hokkaido Championships — Sapporo
Oct. 7-10 — 2021 Tokyo Championships — Nishitokyo City, Tokyo
Oct, 7-10 — 2021 Kinki Championships — Uji, Kyoto
Oct. 28-31 — East Japan Championships — Tokyo
Nov. 4-7 — West Japan Championships — Fukuoka
The ice dance qualifying competition for nationals will be held at East Championships and the pairs at the West Championships.
2021 Japan Championships
Nov. 19-21 — Junior Championships — Nagoya
The 2021 All Japan Championships, will take place Dec. 22-26 at the Saitama Super Arena. The federation has designated this as the qualifying competition for selection to the 2022 Olympic team.
The second skater will be selected based on the following criteria:
Second and third placements at the All Japan Championships
Top two participants at the 2021 Grand Prix Final
Top three ISU season best scores at the end of the All Japan Championships.
The third skater must meet the following criteria:
(A) A skater who falls under (A), (B) or (C) of the second group but is not selected in that group
(B) Top three in the ISU World Standings at the end of the All Japan Championships
(C) Top three ISU Season World Rankings at the end of the All Japan Championships
(D) Top two season best technical scores in international competitions, the All Japan Championships and domestic competitions as designated by the strengthening department
PAIRS AND ICE DANCE
Japan has declined to compete for the second pairs spot it earned at the 2021 World Championships for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games and has just one spot in ice dance.
The selection will be made from the groups that meet any of the following criteria:
All Japan Championship top group
ISU World Standing at the end of the All Japan Championships
The highest in the ISU Season World Ranking at the end of the All Japan Championships
The highest of the ISU Season Best Scores at the end of the All Japan Championships
“Participation in the All Japan Championship, which is the final selection, is mandatory. However, if the athlete who finished third at the World Championships in the past cannot participate in the All Japan Championship due to unavoidable reasons such as injury, then that skater’s performance before the occurrence of injury or other circumstances that caused the non-participation may be evaluated in light of the above selection criteria, and selection may be made while looking at the condition at the time of the tournament.”
The domestic competitions designated by the Strengthening Department are as follows: East Japan Championship, West Japan Championship, East Japan Junior Championship, West Japan Junior Championship, All Japan Junior Championship, All Japan Championship. The highest total score of the short and long programs in competition for the season (within the same competition).
On April 22, the Japan Skating Federation announced the athletes that will be members of Team Japan 2021-2022. The top three singles skaters in men’s and ladies fall under a special category, with the remaining team members ranked in two separate groups. All skaters named below will be eligible for assignments to international events at the junior and senior levels this coming season. Japan will not be fielding any skaters to the first three Junior Grand Prix events.

Following a board meeting on June 23, the Japanese Skating Federation published the dates and locations for the novice, junior and senior competitions for the upcoming season.
