The 2022 Challenger Series begins Sep. 12 with the U.S. Figure Skating Classic in Lake Placid, New York. Expect to see a lot of new faces on the Challenger Series stages this year with a number of junior stars from the 2021-2022 campaign moving into the senior ranks in the wake of a series of skaters and teams that retired at the end of last season as well as those sitting out the early season competitions.
World Standing points will be awarded at each competition providing such competition has the same minimum number of entries per discipline as per the ISU rules.
The Challenger Series, which was introduced during the 2014-2015 season, has proven to be successful in so many ways. Now in its ninth season, the Series provides opportunities for skaters who do not automatically qualify for Grand Prix assignments to earn World Standing Points, along with the potential to win prize money at the end of the season.
Winners of a Challenger Series event will be assigned a position on the alternate list for the 2022 Grand Prix Series (provided the timing makes such inclusion possible). Skaters/teams will be listed in the order of their current World ranking.
Canada and the U.S. are hosting a Challenger Series event in alternating years. This season the U.S. will be the host.
