The 2022 All Japan Championships will take place in Kadoma City, Osaka, Dec. 21-25. A total of 30 men, 29 women, two pairs and six ice dance teams are set to compete
The men′s competition will be a battle no one will want to miss, with the newly crowned Grand Prix Final champion Shoma Uno leading the charge and at least six others all chasing a top-three finish. After missing the first half of the season Yuma Kagiyama will be aiming for the podium in order to earn a place on the Four Continents and World Championships teams.
The women′s field is down to 29. In an Oct. 5 press release from the Japan Skating Federation, Wakaba Higuchi announced she was withdrawing from all competitions this season due to a nagging injury. Mai Mihara is on fire this season, and has to be considered the favourite following her resounding victory at the Final in Italy.
This will be the first nationals for the pairs team of Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara since 2019. The duo was forced to skip the Championships in 2021 due to COVID-19 quarantine restrictions in Japan. Their performances at nationals will be something everyone will enjoy as they have no domestic rivals.
Last year there were only two ice dance teams competing — this year there are six. All eyes will be on the dynamic duo of Kana Muramoto and Daisuke Takahashi who will be looking to capture their first national crown.
Aside from the seeded skaters and those given an exemption, entries in the four disciplines were determined by the results of the regional/sectional competitions and the national junior championships.
The top eight finishers at the Junior Championships in singles and one pairs team have been invited to the Championships:
Men: Nozomu Yoshioka, Takeru Amine Kataise, Haruya Sasaki, Shunsuke Nakamura, Rio Nakata, Karu Kakiuchi, Tsudoi Suto,
Seigo Tauchi
Women: Mao Shimada, Mone Chiba, Ami Nakai, Ikura Kushida, Ayumi Shibayama, Yurina Okuno, Yo Takagi, Haruna Murakami
Pairs: Haruna Murakami/Sumitada Moriguchi
The opening ceremony and the draw take place at 6:30 p.m. (local time) on Dec. 21.
The ″All Japan Medalists on Ice show″ will take place on Dec. 26.
