The 2021 Russian Cup Final (senior and junior) takes place at the Megasport Arena in Moscow, Feb. 27 to March 2. This competition is a go big or stay home event for those looking to snag one of the remaining berths on the 2021 World Championships team. The national champions in the four disciplines automatically earned a trip to the 2021 World Championships in Stockholm and none of the medalists will be competing at this event. The full Russian team for Worlds will be announced on Mon., March 1.
Alexandra Trusova is off the roster as she recovers from an injury. Her coach, Evgeni Plushenko, said she is preparing for the World Championships. Alexander Samarin has dealt with injuries all season and is taking a time out to regroup. Sofia Shevchenko and Igor Eremenko withdrew on Feb. 25. Shevchenko has recovered from a bout of coronavirus but now has bronchitis. Anastasia Guliakova has also withdrawn with a leg injury. She will be replaced by Kamila Sultanmagomedova.
Reigning pairs champions Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov and Mikhail Kolyada are headed to the 2021 Challenge Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. Ice dancers Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov, who have dealt with ongoing illness and injury all season, are slated to make their second start of the season at this competition. German ice dancers Katarina Müller and Tim Dieck, who are coached by Anjelika Krylova, have been added to the roster.
The draws for the short programs/rhythm dance will be held on Fri., Feb. 26 at the end of the respective training sessions. The draws for the free skate/free dance wil take take on Sun., Feb. 28. Medal presentations will be held following the completion of each individual discipline.
The competition will be live streamed on the Channel One website and also on its YouTube channel.
