Skate Canada
The second event of the 2021 Grand Prix Series takes place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Oct. 29-31. After all events in that country were cancelled in 2020 this will be the first international competition hosted by the federation in two years. No media will be on site but a limited number of fans will be permitted to attend.

This will be Nathan Chen′s first appearance at a Skate Canada International competition. Though Chen did not fare well at Skate America, he will be tough to beat in Vancouver. The battle in this discipline will be for the second and third steps of the podium. Canada′s Keegan Messing, Jason Brown of the U.S. and Russia′s Evgeni Semenenko are at the top of the contender list.

The women′s competition is a not-to-be-missed event with star power in every corner. Headliners include Russia′s Kamila Valieva, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Alena Kostornaia who swept the 2021 Finlandia Trophy podium, and Alysa Liu of the U.S. who scored a runaway victory at 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy. Rika Kihira of Japan, for whom this would have been her first competition of the season, has withdrawn due to an osteochondral injury to the right ankle joint. Mai Mihara has been added to the line up in her place.

In pairs, China′s Wenjing Sui and Cong Han will likely twirl away with the title. Silver and bronze are up for grabs and could go to any one of four teams. Vanessa James and Eric Radford will make their Grand Prix debut at this competition.

Canada′s Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier are the top-ranked team in the ice dance field. If they perform to their usual standard, the battle for the second and third steps of the podium will be the highlight of this discipline. Contenders include the teams from Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Russia and the U.S. Which teams will twizzle onto the podium is a question mark at this time given the strength of this field.

This competition overlaps with the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge (a Challenger Series event).
