Zagreb hosts 2019 JGP Croatia Cup, the sixth event of the Series, Sep. 25-28. All four disciplines will be contested. With just two JGP competitions remaining, skaters who are in the running to earn a berth at the Junior Final will be in a battle for the top two steps of the podium.
None more so than the men. This field is the strongest of the entire Series, with six skaters who have already captured medals at previous events chasing a podium finish in Zagreb. Japan′s Shun Sato who defeated Canada′s Stephen Gogolev at their first head-to-head in Lake Placid; Russia′s Andrei Mozalev (first in Riga) and Artur Danielian (second in Chelyabinsk); Sihyeong Lee of Korea (silver in Riga), and Canada′s Aleksa Rakic (silver in Courchevel).
Adam Siao Him Fa of France, who is coached by Brian Joubert, returns to the junior Grand Prix circuit for a third season. This will be his first event of the Series.
In ladies, Haein Lee of South Korea will be chasing a second victory after her win in Riga, but Russia′s Daria Usacheva, who finished second to Lee at that competition, will also be chasing the top step of the podium and a trip to the Final.
The battle for gold in pairs will be between two Russian teams — Iullia Artemeva and Mikhail Nazarychev and Diana Mukhametzianova and Ilya Mironov, who finished second and third, respectively, in Chelyabinsk. Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkel of Germany (third in Gdańsk) could be the spoiler.
In ice dance, Canada′s Emmy Bronsard and Aissa Bouaraguia, who missed the third step of the podium in Courchevel by the slimmest of margins (0.29 of a point), and teammates Nadia Bashynska and Peter Beaumont, third in Chelyabinsk, will go up against Russia’s Sofya Tyutyunina and Alexander Shustitskiy, third in Riga. All three teams scored within three points of each other at their respective events, so it will be a showdown for top honors in Zagreb.
