2018 4CC

The 2018 Four Continents Championships take place in Taipei, Chinese Taipei, starting Wednesday, Jan. 24. The competition will open with the short dance, and pairs and ladies short programs. This will mark the fourth time Taipei has hosted this event (2011, 2014 and 2016).

A total of 102 skaters from 15 member nations have been entered the Championships: 30 men, 23 ladies, 11 pairs and 14 ice dance teams.

With the Olympic Games just a couple of weeks ago, many skaters have opted to skip this event. That has given many of those who will not compete in PyeongChang the opportunity to chase podium finishes that would perhaps not have been possible otherwise.

The Australian pairs team of Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya and Harley Windsor, who will compete at the Olympic Games, will compete in Taipei to give their programs one final run-through before they make their Olympic debut in South Korea. They will be joined by their teammate Kailani Craine who is also scheduled to compete at the Games.

Japan’s Satoko Miyahara and Kaori Sakhomoto, also scheduled for a trip to Korea, will be competing at this event.

It is still unclear what the North Korean government is planning with respect to the Games. To date, the nation has not filed the paperwork necessary for its athletes to compete nor advised the International Olympic Committee of its intentions. The world waits for the news on their participation. Pairs skaters Tae Ok Ryom and Ju Sik Kim earned a berth to the Games at Nebelhorn Trophy and it is hoped they will be making the trip south to compete on Olympic ice.
