Team Japan 2022-2023

On April 21, the Japan Skating Federation (JSF) announced its developmental team for the 2022-2023 season. Last season there were only three men and three women in the ″Special″ category, but this year it has been expanded to six men and four women. All skaters named below will be eligible for assignments to international events at the junior and senior levels this season.

Along with the medalists from senior Worlds, the JSF included the reigning junior champion Kao Miura and the 2022 World junior bronze medalist Tatsuya Tsuboi in the top group for the upcoming season. Kazuki Tomono also earned a place in that group following his strong showing at the World Championships in March.

Kana Muramoto and Daisuke Takahashi confirmed they are returning for another season. Yuzuru Hanyu is off the list following his retirement announcement on July 19.

As Rika Kihira did not compete last season she has not met the criteria, but it is expected she will be assigned to international competitions this season and will be added to the roster at a later date.

Satoko Miyahara announced her retirement on her 24th birthday (March 26) and Keiji Tanaka followed suit on April 11. Miyahara plans to skate in shows and Tanaka is going to move into an assistant coaching role.
