Scimeca Knierim: Romantic Celebration

Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim, a pairs team on and off the ice, married in an intimate setting on June 26 at The Lodge at Flying Horse in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pairs partners since April 2012, the couple announced their engagement on April 8, 2014.

Scimeca chose a princess-style gown with a beaded bodice and layers of chiffon for her special day. A dainty tiara, given to her by her mother, completed her elegant ensemble.

Their skating coach, Dalilah Sappenfield, officiated at the wedding. “There is no one who has had a bigger impact on Chris and I than Dalilah. She not only brought us together but she has kept us together through the hard times,” Scimeca said.

Following the ceremony the couple and their 135 guests dined on chicken and salmon. The three-tiered wedding cake, a mix of lemon-raspberry and chocolate, was topped with tiny replicas of Scimeca, Knierim and their pets.

For their first dance, the newlyweds chose “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers.

Skaters in attendance included Adam Rippon, Ashley Wagner, Ryan Bradley, Max Aaron, Madison Chock and Evan Bates.

The couple’s wedding was the icing on the cake following a successful 2015-2016 season. The claimed at Nebelhorn Trophy, finishing second to reigning Olympic pairs champions Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov. They finished second at Skate America setting a new record for the highest short program score for an American team in international competition. A week later, they mined gold medal at the Challenger Series event, Ice Challenge, in Graz, Austria.

Scimeca and Knierim finished third at NHK Trophy and earned a spot at the 2015 Grand Prix Final where they finished seventh. They were the first U.S. pairs team to qualify for a Grand Prix Final since 2007.  

They closed out the season with two silver medals – the 2016 U.S. Championships and Four Continents – and a ninth place finish at the World Championships in Boston.
