The IFS February 2020 issue highlights the action from the 2019 Grand Prix Final and the showcase of talented athletes in both the junior and senior ranks. Alena Kostornaia is the third Russian lady since 2014 to win a senior Grand Prix Final title the year after claiming a Junior Grand Prix Final crown.

 The 2019 Grand Prix Final in Torino, Italy, offered a glimpse into the future with new champions  crowned in both the junior and senior competitions.

 

After a trio of coaching changes and a loss of enthusiasm for the sport, Nam Nguyen is now in a place where he feels comfortable and supported, He credits his coach for helping him rediscover his love for skating.

 
Despite the ups and downs, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva soldiers on, determined not to give up or give in.


Meryl Davis, the 2014 Olympic ice dance champion, initially found the move away from being a competitive athlete a challenge, but today she is embracing each and every opportunity that comes her way.

 


China’s Han Yan quit the sport after the 2018 Olympic Winter Games but said he could not get skating out of his head or his heart.

 

A new wave of young stars competed at the Junior Grand Prix Final, who came armed with technical skillsets and a determination to be the best.

Great Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson have made a rapid rise in the ice dance world the past two seasons, and are on track to achieve their dream of competing at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. 


 

Kaitlyn Weaver and Sheldon Kennedy captured the coveted “Battle of the Blades” trophy in 2019, but both said this competition meant so much more to them than just winning.
