Jason Brown graces the IFS December 2020 cover. The 25-year-old was on an upward swing last season before everything came to a crushing halt. But, he said he has never felt better about his skating than he did at the beginning of 2020, and said he felt like he was soaring. His focus now is on earning a place on the U.S. Olympic team in 2022.
The day after the annual Russian test skates in September, Medvedeva announced she had made the decision to return to her former coach, Eteri Tutberidze. The move was unexpected and particularly surprising given their acrimonious split following the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. But, given the current global situation, Medvedeva felt this was the right move for her to make.
The past seven months have been tough for Canadian pairs skater Lubov Ilyushechkina, who found herself adrift following the abrupt end to her pairs partnership with Charlie Bilodeau in April. Though it has taken time for her to come to terms with and recover emotionally from what transpired, Ilyushechkina is now putting the experience behind her and moving on.
When he first opened his training center in early 2017 in a small ice rink, many thought Evgeni Plushenko was grandstanding and few took him seriously. But with two young Russian stars under his wing he is now focused on being a full-time coach and plans to move his school and his top students to a training complex currently being built on the outskirts of Moscow.

Bradie Tennell was sailing through last season, enjoying success on the international stages and aiming for a top finish at the World Championships in Montréal. However, when that plan was shelved, she spent the first part of the lockdown assessing where she was at, where she was headed and what she needed to do to get there. In August, she made a coaching change, which she now believes was the right move for her.
There was a collective global cheer on Oct. 1 when the International Skating Union finally posted the Grand Prix assignments for 2020. We preview the final three competitions of the Series, with athlete lists for each competition (at the time of printing and subject to change).
Emily Bausback was a relatively unknown skater from British Columbia until the night she claimed the 2020 Canadian ladies title in a decisive victory. Though disappointed that the World Championships were cancelled, she is on a mission to defend the national title in January and has set her goals high for next season.
