Despite his incredible success the past five years, Hanyu believes he has not yet reached his peak and does not know what his limits are, if any.

 

 

There was a time when junior skaters were, well, junior skaters. In a bygone era, those at that level were considered up- and-coming talents that executed double jumps, throws and twists — and fell a lot. But those days are long gone. While the level of skating in the junior ranks has been rising every season, those at the top took it to an entirely new level this year.

 

He experienced many amazing moments in his career, from sharing Olympic and World podiums with some of the greatest skaters in history, to being honored by his hometown. But his skating achievements are now taking a back seat to a night he described as the most exhilarating and exciting of his life, and an unfolding future that he is looking forward to exploring.

 

Maria Petrova and Alexei Tikhonov captured more than medals and titles during their nine-year competitive career. Their warm and personable approach made them fan favorites around the globe.

On campus, Chen is able to blend in with the rest of the student body and believes that will be an advantage as he continues to balance his student-athlete life. Though a number of students at Yale know who he is and what he has achieved, there are many who do not, which allows him the freedom to be just another student.

The death of Tom Collins on Sept. 1 brought an end to one of the most memorable chapters in the history of figure skating tours. Collins was the mastermind behind Champions on Ice, the most successful skating show of all time in the United States.
