2022 Russian Junior Championships

The 2022 Russian Junior Championships take place in Saransk, Jan. 20-22. The best young skaters in the country — 18 women and men, 12 pairs and 15 ice dance teams — will be battling it out for top honors and international assignments this season and next. This competition will serve as part of the selection process for the 2022 World Junior Championships, and the first step for those who will compete in the junior ranks next season looking to earn a spot at one of the 2022 Junior Grand Prix events.

Russia will field a full complement (three skaters/teams) in all four disciplines to Junior Worlds, which is scheduled to take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, March 7-13.

A number of the nation′s highest-ranked stars on the Junior Grand Prix (JGP) circuit this season will be chasing the top steps of the podiums. Those include the top four finishers in the women′s field: Sofia Akatieva, who ranked first in the JGP standings; Veronika Zhilina (second); Sofia Muravieva (third) and Adeliia Petrosian (fourth), along with two of the top three Russian men: Ilia Yablokov (second) and Kirill Sarnovski (fourth). Gleb Lutfullin (third in the JGP standings) has withdrawn.

The draws for start orders for the short program/rhythm dance will take place Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. local time. The competition will be live streamed on the Channel 1 website and also on the network′s YouTube channel.
