The 2021 U.S. Championships will take place at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jan. 12-21. This will competition feature only junior and senior skaters. No spectators will be in attendance.
Skaters — other than those with a bye — qualified for these Championships via virtual competitions which took place during the fall of 2020. The top nine scorers in the senior singles disciplines and the top six in pairs advanced to the Championships. In juniors, the top 12 scorers in the singles disciplines, top eight in pairs and top 10 in ice dance advanced.
Paige Rydberg was forced to withdraw on Jan. 12 following a positive test for COVID-19 in Las Vegas.
U.S. Figure Skating has set aside two days for senior practice sessions (Jan. 12 and 13). The senior Championship gets underway on Jan. 14 with the pairs and ladies short programs. Everyone in attendance (skaters, officials, media, etc.) will have to submit to COVID tests for the senior competition and also for the junior championship, which begins Wed. Jan. 20.
The initial starting order draws for the short programs/rhythm dance will be conducted via Zoom. This will be the first competition for Jason Brown since 2020 Four Continents, which took place 11 months ago.
U.S. Figure Skating has some fun activities lined up for fans during nationals, one of which is a virtual Bingo game that has a prize of a swag bag filled with U.S. Championship gear.
The competition will air on the NBC/NBCSN television networks. A paid live stream is available on Peacock (requires a VPN outside the U.S.) and will be live streamed in Japan via JSports (link below).
