The battles will be fierce in all four disciplines with it all coming down to the wire at the final event of the Junior Grand Prix Series, 2021 JGP Austria, which takes place in Linz, Oct. 6-9. Though no decision has yet been made about how skaters will qualify for the Junior Grand Prix Final in Osaka, this competition will nonetheless be an important one for many. There are currently 96 skaters/teams slated to compete: 26 men, 39 women, 13 pairs and 18 ice dance teams.
In the men′s field, Ilia Malinin of the U.S. who won the first JGP of the season in Courchevel and Russia′s Kirill Sarnovskiy, the victor in Slovakia, will go head to head.
The young American Isabeau Levito will be looking for a win at this competition to complement the gold she won at the second event in Courchevel. Both Russian women, Sofia Muravieva and Anastasia Zinina, will be chasing a win after finishing second at their respective events in Slovakia and Russia.
The strongest challengers for Russia′s Anastasia Mukhortova and Dmitry Evgenyev, gold medalists pairs in Slovakia in their international debut, will come from Karina Safina and Luka Berulava of Georgia, the runners-up at that competition and bronze medallists at Nebelhorn Trophy.
Russia, Canada and the U.S. will each have two teams in the ice dance line-up and the battle for the three steps on the podium will likely be between those three nations. Oona Brown and Gage Brown of the U.S. will be chasing gold to add to the one they collected at the second event in Courchevel in late August.
It will be a busy week of skating as this competition coincides with the Challenger Series event, Finlandia Trophy.
