2021 Budapest Trophy

2020 Budapest

The 2021 Budapest Trophy, for junior and senior competitors, will take place at the Vasas Arena, Oct. 14-17. Organized by the Hungarian National Skating Federation, this competition traditionally features a mix of domestic and international skaters. Four disciplines will be contested in seniors and three in the juniors (no pairs).

Three Russian women are scheduled to compete: Anna Shcherbakova, Maiia Khromykh and Sofia Samodurova. All three are slated to open their respective Grand Prix seasons at the Gran Premio D’Italia in early November.

Two Russian men are on the roster: Alexander Samarin and Dmitri Aliev. Matteo Rizzo of Italy, who wowed the world at Finlandia Trophy with his quantum leap from 19th after the short to win the free skate and finish in sixth place overall, is also slated to compete.

The ice dance line up features teams from seven nations, which includes the hometown team of Anna Yanovskaya and Ádám Lukács and Lithuania’s Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevičius.

This is an important competition for the Lithuanian team. Though they earned a spot in Beijing at the 2021 World Championships, Reed was denied citizenship earlier this year. The duo needs a solid outing in Budapest for her to have any leverage to secure a passport prior to the Olympic Winter Games.

The Hungarian skating federation will provide a free live stream.

This competition takes place the same week/end as the Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy (link below).
