The final competition of the 10-event Challenger Series, 2019 Golden Spin of Zagreb, takes place Dec. 4-7. A number of skaters who missed the cut for the Grand Prix Final, along with many others will be giving their programs one last test run before their respective national championships.
There are currently 96 skaters/teams on the rosters for all four disciplines. No Canadians are slated to compete in Zagreb.
Russia′s Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Sofia Samodurova are slated to contest this competition and essentially have no challengers for the top two steps of the podium. Third place is wide open.
Three American men form part of the current field of 29: Jason Brown, Alexei Krasnozhon and Camden Pulkinen. This trio could sweep the podium if they can fend off Russia′s Makar Ignatov, who will be joined by his teammate Artur Danielian, the 2018 World Junior silver medalist.
Notable names in the pairs field of 24 include Russia′s Ksenia Stolbova and Andrei Novosolev, who will make their international debut outside their homeland. Initially, the U.S. was fielding its three top teams but, according to the USFS website, Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim have withdrawn from international assignments. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how the national rivalry plays out between Ashley Cain-Gribble and Timothy LeDuc and Tarah Kayne and Danny O’Shea.
In ice dance, Italy′s Charlène Guignard and Marco Fabbri, first alternates for the Final, are currently the top-ranked team listed for this competition. Two U.S. teams are slated to compete: Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter and Caroline Green and Michael Parsons.
