The 2018 Junior Grand Prix schedule has five events taking place in Europe; one in Canada and one in the Republic of Armenia.
Ted Barton will be calling the action from all seven events — as well as the Junior Grand Prix Final in Vancouver in December. All events will be broadcast live on the ISU YouTube Channel. Check the start orders listed for each of the events for times each skater will take to the ice.
All but one of last year′s champions have moved into the senior ranks. Russia’s Alexandra Trusova, 14, who dominated the ladies circuit last season will not be eligible to move up until the 2020-2021 season. If her performances at the Russian test skates in August are any indication of how she will fare this season, Trusova will once again have a lock on the events she contests. In her free skate at the junior test skates she landed multiple clean quad jumps. She does not at this time have a triple Axel, but there is no doubt that it is just a matter of time before she adds at least one to her repertoire.
While Canada’s senior division is now in a rebuilding stage, that is not the case in the junior ranks when it comes to the men where there is an abundance of talent. The U.S. is changing the way it develops its young skaters, so this will be a transitional year with top level results not anticipated.
